About
I have more than 40 years’ of experience as a freshwater ecologist. Initially, my main research focus was the population dynamics of zooplankton and their role as indicators of environmental quality. In recent years, my research focus has changed to the causes and effects of water quality problems in lakes. This includes gathering the scientific evidence that is required to underpin the successful restoration of lakes and support their sustainable management. I lead the Loch Leven long term monitoring project, which has been collecting chemical, physical and biological data at fortnightly intervals for more than 50 years.
