We study the diversity and distribution of life on Earth, to reveal the processes that generate and maintain these patterns. From this foundation, we evaluate and predict how biodiversity has and will reorganise under global environmental change, and apply this knowledge to develop effective conservation solutions. We explore a range of model systems, from hyperdiverse coral reefs to back garden butterflies, and obtain our data through satellites, underwater robots, citizen science and good old-fashioned field work. By working with data scientists, mathematicians and other environmental disciplines, we achieve maximum insight and tackle the growing biodiversity crisis.
