About
I am currently pursuing a PhD at Lancaster University's LEC REEFS, focusing on the effectiveness of devolved governance of coral reef fisheries in Kenya and its potential for future management. Under the guidance of Dr. Christina Hicks, my research aims to explore community-based management strategies for coral fisheries by implementing a grassroots approach to assess ecological and social impacts.
Prior to this, I obtained an MSc in Marine Ecosystem Management from the University of St Andrews, where I developed a comprehensive understanding of ecological, social, and economic aspects of marine conservation and management. My dissertation involved studying the growth rate of microfouling communities on fishing ropes to age ghost gear.
I have extensive fieldwork and lab skills to the table, including scientific diving, intertidal surveys, chromatography, diatom identification, chlorophyll analysis, and statistical analysis using R software. Driven by my passion for marine life, my ultimate career goal is to contribute to marine policy and protected areas, working alongside local communities and stakeholders to support sustainable and equitable outcomes.
