CEEDS Seminar: Decision-making under uncertainty - Addressing trustworthiness of scientific evidence in an uncertain world. 24 February 2:00 - 3:30pm
Following the successful format of previous seminars, we are pleased to announce that that Bran Knowles (LU) and John Watkins (UKCEH) will lead a seminar on “Decision making under uncertainty: Addressing trustworthiness of scientific evidence in an uncertain world”. This seminar will explore factors in the generation of scientific evidence such as environmental models, co-production of analyses and how the inherent uncertainty in these can be addressed and communicated to decision-makers. This will include the nature of trust in a collaborative scientific process and how this can support decisions especially in relation to transparency and the components of trustworthiness. After the talks there will be a panel discussion on issues of dealing with uncertainty, co-production of methods and evidence for decision-makers and how CEEDS can support the development of trustworthy environmental data science.
Speakers:
- Jack Cosby (UKCEH): Sources of uncertainty in environmental models and decision-making under uncertainty: Are we communicating effectively?
- Lauren Thornton (Lancaster University): Considerations in designing trustworthy virtual labs
- Steve Cole (UKCEH): Operational flood forecasting linked to different decision-making contexts (TBC)
- Kate Wright (Lancaster University): Coping with decision-making and uncertainty in post-normal science
The seminar is open to all staff from UKCEH and Lancaster University. To join please click on the Zoom link:
