Prof Aaron MacNeil (https://www.dal.ca/faculty/science/biology/faculty-staff/our-faculty/aaron-macneil/aaron-macneil.html) has been teaching a Bayesian statistics course for the past 3 years, based on the statistical rethinking book (https://www.routledge.com/Statistical-Rethinking-A-Bayesian-Course-with-Examples-in-R-and-STAN/McElreath/p/book/9780367139919). He's a great researcher and teacher, and his statistics are really embedded in the ecological/environmental research he does.
He is coming to do a 1 week intensive course in LEC in the week 12-16th June. This will be a full 5 days, with morning teaching and afternoon practical’s, dealing with problems and datasets raised by attendees. He will teach both R/Python versions, depending on people’s interest. A rough schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday June 12th: am: Intro to Bayes: why models, why Bayes
Monday pm: Geocentric models: Normal linear models, conditional covariates
Tuesday June 13th: am: Computational bits: MCMC, Causal inference, and model comparison
Tuesday pm: Group problem 1
Wednesday June 14th: am: Other linear models: binomial, Poisson vs Negative Binomial, Zero-inflation
Wednesday pm: Group problem 2
Thursday June 15th: am: Hierarchical models: partial-pooling and parameterization
Thursday pm: Group problem 3
Friday June 16th: am: Covariance models: Multivariate Normal, Gaussian Processes
Friday pm: Group problem 4
The cost of the course will be £250/person. He can take up to 20 participants, and there are currently 10 free spaces. Please let Prof. Nick Graham (nick.graham@lancaster.ac.uk) know asap if you would like to attend the course.
