CEEDS Seminar on Model Emulation
Friday 25th October - 2 to 3.30pm
We are pleased to announce an upcoming CEEDS seminar on ‘Model Emulation’, led by Dr Lily Gouldsbrough and Prof. Gordon Blair (UKCEH). Driven by advances in AI, model emulation has emerged as an important topic in modelling and prediction. The field has been turbo-charged with the emergence of GraphCast, a model emulator for medium-range weather forecasts that is claimed to achieve unprecedented accuracy. In this seminar, we will investigate the role of model emulators in environmental modelling, examining both technological advances in this area and potential applications and benefits of the approach for complex modelling. As usual, the format will be 4 x 10-minute talks, with plenty of time after each talk and at the end for discussion. The speakers and their topics are:
- Dr. Rob Parker (U. Leicester): Emulating the JULES land surface model to underpin future Digital Twin development.
- Dr. Martin Stoffel (Alan Turing Institute): AutoEmulate - An open-source package for semi-automated surrogate modelling.
- Dr Henry Moss (U. Lancaster): So you’ve got an emulator, so what?
- Prof. Paula Harrison and Dr. Amy Thomas (UKCEH): The role of emulation in enabling systemic science through integrated modelling platforms.
This seminar is open to all staff from UKCEH and Lancaster University. To join please click on the Zoom link: Passcode: 479602
