We seek novel data science solutions that enable environmental scientists and policy-makers to better understand the highly complex and heterogeneous nature of environmental data. We take a deliberately broad perspective on such methods drawing on contemporary statistics (time series analyses, changepoint detection methods, extreme value theory, spatial statistics, Bayesian methods) through to statistical machine learning and deep learning approaches. This includes investigating methods, and combinations of methods, which allow us to quantify, propagate and bound uncertainties in environmental data and models.
